Principal Systems Engineer (Mechanical/Electrical/Process Systems) \n\nLocation: Hybrid - Derby Office attendance 2/3 days per week\nContract Duration: 12 months\nRate: £65 Per Hour Inside IR35\nAre you a Systems Engineer with experience in mechanical, electrical, and process systems in highly regulated industries such as nuclear, aerospace, or defence? We are looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to join a dynamic contract team delivering defence and decommissioning projects. \nYou will work in a fast-paced, technically challenging environment, bridging complex systems, leading interface management, and delivering robust, compliant solutions.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nProduce, manage, and verify system requirement specifications.\nLead interface management across mechanical, electrical, and process systems.\nDefine system architecture and perform functional and interface modelling.\nWork closely with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure system designs meet operational and regulatory requirements.\nMaintain and operate requirements management software (DOORS ).\nApply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as Capella (desirable).\nEssential Qualifications & Experience\n\nDegree in Engineering or STEM subject (or equivalent demonstrable experience).\nExperience in highly regulated industries - nuclear, aerospace, or defence.\nStrong foundation in mechanical or electrical engineering.\nExperience with systems thinking and systems engineering processes.\nCompetence in producing technical documentation, managing system interfaces, and supporting design decisions.\nDesirable Skills\n\nPrior exposure to the nuclear sector.\nSystems Engineering qualifications/training.\nPractitioner experience with Rationale DOORS.\nFamiliarity with MBSE and INCOSE/BS standards.\nExperience transitioning from core engineering into systems engineering roles.\nPlease note that this role will require UK Security Clearance.
