Principal Systems Engineer Embedded & Hardware Bedford | Hybrid Working (3 Days Onsite)An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Systems Engineer to take ownership of a critical embedded hardware and software development programme.This is a senior technical leadership role where you will act as the technical authority across embedded systems, electronics and software development activities, working closely with both internal stakeholders and third-party engineering partners to guide technical decisions, review designs, solve complex engineering challenges and support successful product delivery.The role combines systems engineering, technical leadership, architecture, supplier management and stakeholder engagement. It is ideally suited to somebody who enjoys influencing technical direction, challenging design decisions and driving engineering excellence across multidisciplinary teams.The Role Working at system level, you will provide technical leadership across embedded hardware, electronics and software development activities.You will act as a key technical interface between the business and external development partners, reviewing proposed solutions, influencing architecture, identifying technical risks and ensuring products are robust, manufacturable and aligned with programme objectives.Success in this position will depend as much on your ability to build effective relationships, influence stakeholders and work collaboratively with suppliers as it will on your engineering expertise.Key Responsibilities Act as the technical authority for embedded hardware and software development activitiesProvide technical leadership across systems engineering, architecture and integration activitiesReview, challenge and influence technical designs and proposed solutionsDefine and influence system-level requirements and technical directionWork closely with third-party engineering partners and suppliersIdentify, assess and mitigate technical risksLead and participate in design reviewsSupport verification and validation activitiesEnsure products are robust, manufacturable and suitable for productionCollaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing and project teamsCommunicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersDrive delivery through influence, collaboration and sound engineering judgementWillingness to travel abroad 3-5 times per yearAbout You You will have a strong engineering background combined with the ability to provide technical leadership and work effectively across multiple teams and organisations.You may currently be working as a:Principal Systems EngineerSenior Systems EngineerLead Systems EngineerSystems Design EngineerTechnical LeadPrincipal EngineerEngineering ManagerDesign AuthorityExperience in several of the following areas would be advantageous:Systems EngineeringEmbedded SystemsElectronics DesignEmbedded Software DevelopmentSystems ArchitectureProduct DevelopmentTechnical LeadershipRequirements ManagementDesign ReviewsVerification & Validation (V&V)Supplier ManagementProduct Delivery within structured engineering environmentsExperience within medical devices or other regulated industries would be beneficial, however we are equally interested in candidates from aerospace, defence, industrial automation, scientific instrumentation or similar sectors where technical rigour, quality and disciplined product development are fundamental.Package £60,000 - £75,000 basic salaryBonus schemeHybrid workingPrivate Medical InsurancePension schemeLife Assurance25 days annual leave plus bank holidaysEnhanced family-friendly benefitsExcellent working environmentFree parking and EV chargingThis is an opportunity to play a key role in the development of an innovative technology product, combining technical authority, systems thinking and engineering leadership to drive successful product delivery.TPBN1_UKTJ
