The Group is currently ranked second in the world for nuclear engineering.\n\nTo ensure a viable, efficient, and reliable energy future for all.\n\nJob Description\n\nPrincipal Structural Integrity Engineer\n Location: Derby\n\nYour future team:\n\nDue to rapidly increasing demands for new plant and equipment in the defence industry, as well as life extension programmes for existing plant, our structural integrity experts are in high demand, and we need a technical leader to drive that growth.\n\n You’ll help shape a team of smart, driven engineers\n Mentor and grow future technical leaders\n\nYour Missions:\n\n Serve as the go-to expert for Structural Integrity .
Troubleshoot issues, give technical advice, and review analysis & progress.\n Review calculations and reports, and confidently represent Assystem in client meetings.\n✅ Act as an Independent Technical Approver, ensuring high technical standards.\n Use Finite Element Analysis and hand calcs to prove structural integrity to international standards, including pressure vessel & defect tolerance codes.\n Work closely with safety case authors and cross-functional engineering teams.\n Help drive bids, proposals, and strategic growth initiatives.\n Mentor junior engineers, shaping the next of integrity professionals.Why Join the Community of Switchers?\n\n Over 55 years in nuclear engineering.\n Ranked among the top 3 largest nuclear engineering companies.\n Attractive social benefits, including an engaging Employee Committee and holiday bonuses.\n Ongoing training with numerous career opportunities.\n 70% of our managers are promoted internally!\n Hybrid work: 1-2 days remote per week.\n\nQualifications\n\nRequirements & Qualifications\n\nWe Want Someone Who Can...\n\n Lead on structural integrity with modern techniques\n✍️ Own assessments using top tools & standards\n Mentor junior engineers & lead technically\n Work directly with clients to solve problems\n Expert in FE analysis for strength, fatigue, defects, and service life\n Skilled in ASME III/VIII, API-579, BS7910, BS7608 (R3/R5/R6 a plus)\n Bonus: experience in CFD, dynamics, fatigue, degradation mechanisms is highly desirable\n⚛️ Must have nuclear sector experience\n\nYour Toolbox Should Include...\n\n Eng. degree + CEng\n ️ Experience in nuclear SSC assessments\n ️ Strong communicator with commercial awareness\n Expert in ABAQUS (or ANSYS, Dyna, etc.)\n Used Altair Hyperworks or similar tools\n Familiar with code assessments (ASME, PD5500, BS2573, BS EN 13001)\n⚙️ Know manufacturing methods, materials, inspections\n\n Not a perfect match?
