Principal Software Engineer

Hexwired have partnered with a pioneering technology company at the forefront of developing cutting-edge solutions for remotely operated and autonomous systems. Based near Portsmouth and undergoing exciting growth, they’re now seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the design and development of next- user-facing software.



This role involves end-to-end software development with a strong focus on UI/UX, using C++, Qt, QML, and JavaScript to create robust, intuitive interfaces that support remote control of autonomous vehicles. Ideal candidates will have a passion for user interface design, strong technical leadership skills, and experience building complex applications in high-stakes environments.



Essential Skills & Qualities:



* Proven leadership in software development projects



* Extensive experience in C++ and Qt (including QML & JavaScript)



* Strong understanding of user interface/UX principles for mission-critical systems



* Comfortable working independently across R&D, prototyping, and production



* Excellent communication and user engagement skills



* Awareness of ROS2 and/or MAVLink – nice to have but not essential
