Job Description

Job Title:\nPrincipal/Senior Engineer – Structural (Shock &\nDynamics)

Location:\nBarrow in Furness. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working\narrangements – please speak to your recruiter about\nthe options for this particular role.

Salary: Up to\n£57,500

What you’ll be\ndoing:

  • Lead the development of the\nfunctional requirements and supporting V&V evidence for\nsecondary structures to support design justification documentation\nset
  • Oversee the spatial design and drawing\noutputs for secondary structures in accordance with process\ninstructions and standard design guidance
  • \n

  • Follow internal procedures and develop evidence of\ncompliance through written calculations and reports
  • \n

  • Undertake structural calculations and (or) peer review\nchecking and approval activities
  • Lead and support the\nidentification and rapid closure of issues emerging from all\nproduct lifecycle stages
  • Ensure the\nappropriate engineering guidance is implemented to ensure robust\nand efficient calculations are implemented early with a “right\nfirst time” mind set
  • Lead technical development and\nresearch activities, methods and acceptance criterion, liaising\nwith industrial partners and external customers as\nnecessary

Your skills\nand experiences:

\n

Essential:

  • Experience of\nundertaking structural calculations
  • \n

  • Understanding the principals of structural mechanics and\ndynamics
  • Experience of developing structural\nrequirements and V&V evidence
  • Experience\nin using Finite Element Analysis (FEA)\nSoftware
  • Experience in presenting technical\narguments clearly and simply
  • Previous\nexperience in checking and approving work

Desirable

  • Knowledge of\nAbaqus FEA and Simcenter or willingness to learn
  • \n

  • Chartered Engineer (or on route to becoming\nChartered)
  • Experienced in generating\ntoolset/calculation templates

The Secondary\nStructures Department:

Join the\nnewly established Secondary Structures Department, a dynamic and\nforward-thinking team at the forefront of submarine structural\nengineering. As part of this innovative group, you will play a\ncritical role in supporting structural requirements and conducting\ncomplex simulations of\ninternal submarine structures. Your expertise will help safeguard\nessential equipment against naval shock events and various load\nconditions, ensuring optimal performance and durability.

Beyond technical excellence, this team thrives on collaboration,\nproviding structural design guidance to both internal and external\nstakeholders during key design reviews. We offer relocation support\npackages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting\neligibility criteria
