The Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer / Senior Principal Systems Engineer with a structural and thermal analysis and design background to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.
Essential Functions:
Perform linear and non-linear structural analyses of individual components and complex underwater structures using a combination of hand-calculations, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and bolted joint calculations.
Perform thermal analysis of electronics, cooling systems, and fluid systems considering conduction, convection, and radiation. Design thermal management systems including refrigerant-based cooling systems, closed-loop fluid systems, and closed-loop ventilation systems.
Design and perform tests to validate or troubleshoot thermal performance. Experience with analysis tools such as Matlab, MathCAD, and thermal analysis tools such as IcePak, CFDesign, Simcenter Flow/Thermal, and ANSYS/APDL is highly desirable.
Provide technical leadership to the department in all areas of structural and thermal analysis.
Collaborate in a team environment, prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish project results, and analyze complex problems to develop solutions.
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer:
BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, or equivalent STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of experience in structural and/or thermal analysis or MS degree with 3 years of experience or 1 year with PhD.
Proficiency in using Finite Element Analysis tools (FEMAP/Nastran or ANSYS), bolted joint analysis, and structural hand calculations.
Proficiency with thermal analysis tools and thermal loads calculations.
US with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI and pass a polygraph.
Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Systems Engineer:
BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace, or equivalent STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of experience in thermal analysis or MS degree with 6 years of experience or 4 years with PhD.
Proficiency in using Finite Element Analysis tools (FEMAP/Nastran or ANSYS), bolted joint analysis, and structural hand calculations.
Proficiency with thermal analysis tools and thermal loads calculations.
US with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI and pass a polygraph.
Qualifications:
Able to work in a fast-paced environment where multiple projects are being developed and deployed simultaneously.
Experience with composites design and analysis.
Active TS/SCI clearance.
Salary Range:
$105,400 - $158,000
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
