Principal Mechanical Engineer | Indianapolis, IN

Our client, a leading automation and machinery manufacturer in Indianapolis, is hiring a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their innovative engineering team. This role focuses on designing mechanical systems for custom industrial automation equipment used in automotive, packaging, and general manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop mechanical systems and assemblies for custom machinery
• Create 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings (SolidWorks )
• Select components including pneumatics, actuators, and bearings
• Support machine build, testing, and troubleshooting
• Collaborate with electrical and controls engineers during system integration
• Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 10+ years of mechanical design experience (automation or machinery )
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or similar)
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, tolerances, and manufacturing processes
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
