Job Title: Principal Manufacturing Engineer



Location: Barrow-in-Furness (Onsite)



Salary: £47,271+ depending on skills and experience



What you’ll be doing:



Lead and develop a team, including training, mentoring, and supporting professional accreditation (CEng / IEng / EngTech)



Provide specialist technical advice, applying innovation and creativity to drive problem-solving and continuous improvement



Manage scheduling, planning, budgets, performance, and governance processes to ensure successful delivery of outputs



Chair technical meetings and reviews to support Manufacturing Engineering deliverables



Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders



Apply approved tools and systems (e.g., Life Cycle Management, Production Systems) to achieve project outcomes



Conduct peer reviews and ensure compliance with mandated procedures



Act as Technical Lead within your sub-discipline and serve as an authorised signatory



Provide input to senior management on resourcing requirements and workforce planning



Support business cases for the introduction of new or replacement technologies and equipment



Your skills and experiences:



HNC with extensive Manufacturing Engineering experience, or a relevant degree with practical ME experience



Sheet metal bias with experience in fabrication, design-for-manufacture, and production support



Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma principles, with a proven track record of driving process improvements



Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and people management skills



Experience in planning, build line support, validation, quality, and configuration control



Proficient with CAD, G Codes, and key manufacturing tools (PLM, ERP, MES)



Ability to deliver innovative solutions and results within agreed time, cost, and safety requirements



Excellent understanding of design-to-manufacture processes and future product development

The team:



As a Principal Manufacturing Engineer, you will manage and guide a team of manufacturing engineers in delivering complex, cross-disciplinary projects. Drawing on your expertise, you will ensure that Manufacturing Engineering outputs align with design intent and operational requirements. You will play a key role in understanding business and functional needs, supporting project delivery, and managing resources in collaboration with the ME Manager. This role also requires strong stakeholder management to balance the priorities of Manufacturing Operations and Programme demands, while delegating tasks effectively to achieve successful outcomes. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
