️ Principal Engineer – Public Sector Stormwater Compliance & Planning
Santa Rosa | Richmond | San Francisco | Hybrid or Remote within California
$170,000–$210,000 + Bonus + Benefits
A leading environmental science and engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead stormwater compliance and planning projects for public sector clients across California.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead complex stormwater projects, including NPDES compliance, watershed planning, and green infrastructure design.
• Serve as Principal-in-Charge for municipal and state agency clients, including Caltrans, USACE, and regional water boards.
• Develop and grow client relationships, identify new opportunities, and prepare proposals and budgets.
• Generate approximately $1.25M+ in annual net revenue through project leadership and client development.
• Mentor and develop staff, fostering collaboration and technical excellence.
Qualifications:
• PE license in California (required).
• 15+ years’ experience in stormwater management, planning, and compliance for public sector agencies.
• Proven business development success and ability to lead multidisciplinary project teams.
• Advanced degree (MS/PhD), though experienced BS-level candidates may be considered.
• Strong knowledge of California stormwater regulations (MS4, Caltrans, TMDLs, LID).
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
