Principal Electrical Design Engineer

Up to £70,000 + Benefits

Location: Manchester OR Liverpool



An established building services consultancy is seeking a highly motivated Principal (or above) Electrical Design Engineer to join their leadership team. This is an excellent opportunity for a client-facing engineer to lead a growing team, drive high-value projects, and play a key role in shaping the future direction of the practice.



The Role

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will take the lead on projects valued up to £300m across a wide range of sectors. You'll be responsible for overseeing the full project lifecycle (RIBA Stages 1-6), providing technical excellence, and ensuring the successful delivery of innovative, sustainable electrical designs. You will also lead and mentor a team of 8 engineers, developing talent while maintaining a culture of collaboration and quality. They work across a mix of projects including residential, commercial, education and mixed-use.



Key Responsibilities

Lead and deliver electrical design on large-scale, complex projects up to £300m in value.

Act as the primary client interface, building and maintaining strong relationships.

Manage and mentor a team of 8 engineers, ensuring technical excellence and career development.

Oversee design stages from concept through to completion (RIBA 1-6).

Ensure compliance with regulations, standards, and industry best practice.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and external stakeholders.

Contribute to business development and the continued growth of the consultancy.



What You'll Need to Succeed

Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or a related discipline.

Proven experience in electrical design engineering within the building services sector.

Track record of leading project delivery and managing multidisciplinary teams.

Excellent technical knowledge of electrical systems, regulations, and sustainable design practices.

Strong client-facing and communication skills, with the ability to build lasting relationships - this is essential!

Ability to work across all RIBA stages and deliver high-value, complex projects.
