Diesel Preventative Maintenance Technician (Heavy Equipment)

General Summary

Sunrock is hiring a Diesel Preventative Maintenance Technician to support the upkeep and reliability of heavy equipment across multiple locations. This role focuses on performing routine preventative maintenance on diesel-powered equipment, ensuring safe operation and minimizing downtime.

This position is ideal for candidates with mechanical aptitude, diesel experience, or heavy equipment maintenance experience who are looking to grow within a stable and expanding company.

The role requires working in an industrial environment with flexibility to support overnight shifts, overtime, and weekend work as needed.

Work Schedule

• Shift: 4:00 PM – 6:00 AM
• Schedule: 4 days per week
• Average Work Week: Approximately 60 hours (based on current workload)
• Note: Schedule is currently in place due to operational backlog and is subject to change

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance on diesel and heavy equipment
• Conduct inspections using checklists to ensure equipment is safe and operational
• Check and maintain fluid levels, lubricate components, and replace minor parts
• Perform basic tire checks and brake inspections; escalate larger repairs
• Clean, inspect, and service equipment and vehicles
• Document maintenance work and report equipment issues
• Operate a service vehicle and travel to job sites as needed
• Maintain accurate records of labor, parts, and service activities
• Assist mechanics and support shop or field maintenance operations
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment
• Follow all MSHA, OSHA, and company safety standards
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities

• Mechanical aptitude with diesel or heavy equipment
• Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance practices
• Ability to safely use tools and equipment
• Ability to follow instructions, checklists, and safety procedures
• Strong attention to detail and problem awareness
• Basic computer skills for reporting and documentation
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively

Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma or GED required
• 6 months to 2+ years of experience in diesel, fleet, or heavy equipment maintenance
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required
• CDL , but not required
