We’re hiring a seasoned CNC professional in Palatine, IL to set up and operate machining centers on second shift. This is a long-term contract opportunity with the potential to convert to direct hire.

Impact you’ll make

• Own end-to-end setups and production runs on CNC mills and lathes.
• Ensure dimensional accuracy with disciplined inspection and documentation.
• Keep parts moving—finish, deburr, and clean to standard.
• Support a safe, organized, and efficient cell while meeting output goals.

Daily responsibilities

• Configure and operate CNC machining centers; Mazak and Okuma experience strongly (Haas experience considered).
• Read and interpret engineering blueprints; a blueprint test is part of the interview process.
• Use micrometers, calipers, and related precision tools to verify features and tolerances.
• Deburr and clean parts with hand and power tools.
• Handle components from 1–25 lbs. routinely, with occasional lifts up to 50 lbs.
• Follow all safety and operating procedures in a fast-paced team environment.

Must-haves

• Minimum 3 years in CNC machining (operation and/or setup).
• Confident blueprint reading skills.
• Proficiency with micrometers, calipers, and precision measurement equipment.
• Solid shop math and machining fundamentals.
• Ability to stand most of the shift and lift 25 lbs. regularly (50 lbs. occasionally).
• Second shift availability: 4:30 PM – 1:30 AM, Monday–Friday, with possible Saturday overtime.

Nice-to-have experience

• 6–8 years of CNC background with advanced capability.
• Proven CNC setup expertise.
• Familiar with Mazak and/or Okuma controls; Haas exposure is beneficial.
• Additional training or coursework (e.g., Continuous Improvement Institute or similar).
• Strong organization and problem-solving in a dynamic production environment.
