Data Analytics Engineer provides technical data analysis to find, track and communicate operational and market trends for the ERCOT System. Queries, compiles and develops visualizations of ERCOT data and develops presentations of various analyses. Operational trends can relate to, but is not limited to: output or outages, forecasts, demand response, resource performance or other elements of the ERCOT system at various times of day or seasons of the year. Supports the Event Analysis team that conducts analysis on the performance of the transmission system and Resources during ERCOT power system events. This position requires the Data Analytics Engineer to work independently, interact professionally with internal and external personnel of various position levels from individual contributors to senior management, meet deadlines, and work well within a team environment.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES

Develops innovative ways of looking at ERCOT operational data to provide insights and early indicators of changes, issues and trends

Proactively analyzes data to help identify and document existing, evolving, and emerging ERCOT Operations trends

Formulate conclusions and recommendations based on existing, evolving, and emerging ERCOT Operations trends

Responsible for creating databases, dashboards, or other tracking methods as needed to collect and maintain data and trend analysis for reporting

Responds to executive and management inquiries and special reporting requests

Demonstrates skills as an expert user of software applications and tools, spreadsheet programs, and database programs.

Appropriately reports findings and recommendations and communicates results of analyses to appropriate stakeholders, including maintaining regular communication with the team

May coordinate, provide presentations, and participate in stakeholder meetings with ERCOT personnel, Market Participants, and industry Regulatory agencies

Possesses the ability to recognize upstream and downstream impacts

Fosters and leverages strong working relationships with team and other internal departments

Participates in multifunctional teams to obtain input, address comments, and perform studies

Creates, reviews, and updates departmental and organizational processes and procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency

May provide on the job training or help oversee the work of other engineers/analysts

Acts as mentor and advisor to less experienced engineers/analysts

Lends professional expertise to guide projects and help teammates assigned by manager

Serves as a recognized technical expert for the department within the organization

Communicates and coordinates with multiple engineering groups within ERCOT

Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills to communicate and collaborate with diverse groups in a tactful and diplomatic manner

Performs all work according to applicable rules and regulations including regulatory and safety requirements as well as organizational policies and procedures

Develops and maintains a good understanding of the ERCOT competitive energy markets

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree: Engineering or related field (Required)

or a combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge to a major in such fields is required.

CERTIFICATION

Data Analytics related certification(s) but not required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Data analysis and data visualization experience

Tech savvy with strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite

Must have strong skills with software applications and tools, spreadsheet programs, and database programs

EXPERIENCE

Familiarity with the electric utility industry

Familiarity with the ERCOT system

Experience working with large data sets

Experience querying databases

Experience with using SQL

Experience with PI data

Experience coding

Salary and level will be based on overall experience as determined by ERCOT.

WORK LOCATION - Taylor, TX:

Employees will be required to be on-site in Taylor, TX at minimum 2 days per week, or more, as needed based on the business needs as determined by management

On-site schedules are flexible or may be rotated based on business needs as determined by the Manager

Remote work is required to be performed from your Texas residence.

Employees may opt to work on-site more than required or 100% of the time
