Power Plant Engineer

Position Summary

The Powerplant Engineering Manager will lead and coordinate engineering support for plant operations and maintenance, focusing on safety, environmental compliance, performance optimization, and contract adherence.

Key Responsibilities

The Powerplant Engineering Manager will set goals and manage functions across Engineering, Plant Performance, O&M Support, Safety & Environmental Compliance, and IT (including DCS).

Develop and oversee monitoring systems for availability and thermal efficiency improvements.

Lead plant improvement initiatives, perform cost-benefit analyses, and manage change/configuration processes.

The Powerplant Engineering Manager will implement systems to monitor plant issues affecting safety, compliance, reliability, and budget.

Use analysis tools to detect early equipment issues and support maintenance planning.

Lead root cause investigations and develop mitigation strategies for equipment failures and incidents.

Maintain accurate records on equipment, drawings, performance data, DCS, and water chemistry.

The Powerplant Engineering Manager will manage the engineering budget and contribute to plant-wide financial planning.

Prepare bid specs, evaluate proposals, and oversee contractor performance for compliance.

Ensure IT and DCS systems are maintained, updated, and secure with minimal operational impact.

Provide technical support across departments to meet operational and compliance goals.

Work with vendors, contractors, and corporate engineering to resolve issues and implement improvements.

Adhere to and promote all EH&S and NERC compliance policies and participate in training initiatives.

Qualifications

The Powerplant Engineering Manager must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering

PE license in Connecticut ().

Must have a minimum of 10 years in

power plant engineering

with 5+ years in supervisory roles.

Strong understanding of plant operations, maintenance, control systems, chemistry, budgets, and contract management.

Leadership, problem-solving, data analysis, cross-functional communication, and project management.

The Powerplant Engineering Manager must have proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
