About the Role

\n

Howard Industries is seeking a seasoned SST / Inverter / UPS Design Engineer to join our team in Laurel, MS. This role involves designing high-performance inverter and UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) systems for industrial, utility, and energy applications. In addition to traditional UPS and inverter development, this position will support Solid-State Transformer (SST) development and integration, contributing to next- high-frequency, multi-port power-conversion platforms. You will participate in full product development from concept through production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop inverter and UPS systems (online, solar, offline, line-interactive U
  • \n

  • PS)Work on DC-DC and DC-AC converter topologies
  • \n

  • Develop and optimization
  • \n

  • Solar grid synchronization
  • \n

  • UPS transfer control and backup functionality
  • \n

  • Protection features (anti-islanding, OV/UV, short circuit)
  • \n

  • Design UPS subsystems, including: Battery charging systems, Battery management integration, Static switches and bypass systems
  • \n

  • Perform simulation and validation
  • \n

  • Lead power-stage design, including selection of IGBTs, MOSFETs, and SiC devices
  • \n

  • Collaborate with firmware teams for DSP/microcontroller-based control systems
  • \n

  • Support PCB design and layout with focus on EMI/EMC and thermal optimization
  • \n

  • Conduct testing, debugging, and system validation
  • \n

  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, UL standards for inverter and UPS systems
  • \n

  • Contribute to SST subsystem development, integration, and validation
  • \n

Required Qualifications

\n

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Electronics
  • \n

  • At least 5 years of experience in inverter and/or UPS design
  • \n

  • Strong expertise in: Power converter topologies, UPS architecture and operation Control systems and digital power control H-bridge and full-bridge inverter design
  • \n

Skills

\n

    \n
  • Knowledge of battery technologies (Li-ion, Lead-acid) and BMS integration
  • \n

  • Experience in solar + storage hybrid systems
  • \n

  • Familiarity with SiC/GaN power devices
  • \n

  • Experience with EMI/EMC compliance and thermal design
  • \n

  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • \n

  • Ability to own subsystem or module-level designs
  • \n

  • Cross-functional collaboration mindset
