A leading global energy trading and investment platform is expanding its North American power business, developing a portfolio that spans generation, battery storage, and structured offtake agreements.
The firm is building out its trading and commercial capabilities and seeking a Power Asset Trader to support the build-out of its asset-backed portfolio and optimization strategy.
This role combines trading, optimization, and structuring, offering the opportunity to influence platform development and commercial strategy from the ground up.
Key Responsibilities
Trading & Portfolio Optimization
- Execute physical and financial trades (power, gas, emissions) across ERCOT and/or PJM.
- Develop and execute asset-backed trading strategies to maximize risk-adjusted returns.
- Manage congestion rights, nodal/time spreads, renewable shapes, and proxy hedges.
- Identify near- and long-term opportunities to enhance portfolio value.
Commercial Structuring
- Structure and evaluate complex products such as heat-rate options, battery tolls, PPAs, and load-firming solutions.
- Support the design and negotiation of Energy Management Agreements (EMAs) with third parties.
Platform Development
- Contribute to building the trading, risk, and reporting framework for power assets.
- Collaborate with quantitative, risk, and operations teams to ensure strong execution.
- Provide market insights and performance updates to internal stakeholders.
Candidate Profile
- 7+ years’ experience in power trading, structuring, or portfolio management.
- Deep knowledge of ERCOT and/or PJM markets.
- Proven success in asset-backed and structured trading.
