Plant Maintenance Engineer in Milwaukee

We're looking for an experienced, hands-on Plant Engineer to take ownership of plant maintenance, equipment reliability, and engineering improvements at our leather tannery. This is a leadership role that blends technical depth with day-to-day problem solving — ideal for someone who thrives in an industrial environment and takes pride in keeping operations running at their best.
What You'll Do
Maintenance & Reliability
• Lead and prioritize all plant maintenance, working directly alongside the maintenance team
• Coordinate with supervisors and management to schedule projects and address priorities
• Ensure all preventive maintenance programs are consistently executed
• Directly assist with maintenance projects as needed — this is a hands-on role
Engineering & Improvements
• Oversee plant equipment, processes, and related programs
• Drive improvements to maximize equipment performance and support production of specialty leathers
• Coordinate major repairs to the physical plant and equipment
• Develop, seek approval for, and implement capital improvement projects
Administration & Compliance
• Manage relationships with outside contractors and service providers
• Obtain quotes, order parts and services, and maintain parts inventory
• Keep accurate maintenance records and files for all machines and departments
• Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory programs, including OSHA, Confined Space, and
Lockout/Tagout
• Support training and development of the maintenance team
• Assist with wastewater pre-treatment operations and environmental testing as needed
What We're Looking For
• Extensive background in mechanical, electrical, and/or process equipment
• Experience leading or coordinating a maintenance team in an industrial setting
• Strong troubleshooting skills and a hands-on approach to problem solving
• Ability to manage projects, vendors, and competing priorities effectively
• Familiarity with OSHA and industrial safety programs (Confined Space, Lockout/Tagout, etc.)
• Prior tannery or leather industry experience is a plus – we will train the right candidate
