Functions:
The Planning Supervisor leads the Citys planning team and oversees daily operations related to land use, zoning, subdivision review, and long-range planning initiatives. This role provides guidance and mentorship to staff, ensures compliance with regulations, and supports responsible growth through a balance of technical expertise, problem-solving, and community engagement.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Supervise planning staff and daily activities including development review, zoning, and subdivision applications.
- Provide guidance to developers, contractors, and regarding land use regulations, zoning, and planning processes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations while supporting responsible growth.
- Prepare and present staff reports, maps, and recommendations to the Planning & Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and City Council.
- Assist with updates to ordinances, codes, and policies.
- Mentor and coach planning staff, setting clear expectations and providing professional development opportunities.
- Coordinate with other City departments to ensure effective and consistent service delivery.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Leadership & Supervision: Guides staff with clarity and accountability; fosters collaboration within the department and across City functions.
- Technical Knowledge of Planning: Applies working knowledge of zoning, subdivision review, site plan review, and long-range planning principles.
- Customer & Community Focus: Communicates technical requirements in clear, accessible ; provides timely and fair service.
- Strategic Thinking: Anticipates issues, recommends improvements to processes and ordinances, and contributes to long-term planning goals.
- Problem Solving & Adaptability: Finds practical solutions to development challenges; balances growth with community values.
- Communication Skills: Prepares clear, accurate staff reports, presentations, and recommendations; communicates effectively with boards, council, and the public.

Training, Education and Experience:
- Highschool diploma (or equivalent) and valid drivers license required.
- Bachelors degree in urban planning, Public Administration, Geography, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of experience in municipal planning, including work on zoning, platting, and site development.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- AICP certification .
