Overview
Energy Jobline is supporting a major international energy infrastructure programme and is seeking an experienced Planning Engineer to support project scheduling and progress monitoring across a complex engineering and construction project.
The role focuses on developing and maintaining project schedules, monitoring progress across multiple workstreams, and providing schedule analysis to support effective project delivery.
The Role
Reporting to the Project Services Manager, the Planning Engineer will be responsible for preparing and maintaining project schedules across engineering, procurement, construction, installation, commissioning, and handover phases.
The role works closely with project teams, contractors, and vendors to track progress, identify schedule risks, and support recovery planning where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the Project Master Schedule aligned with the Project Execution Plan
- Establish and manage the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and activity coding structure
- Identify key milestones, dependencies, and critical path activities
- Monitor project progress against the baseline schedule and update schedules regularly
- Analyse schedule deviations and support development of mitigation or recovery plans
- Maintain project reporting tools including S-curves, progress tracking, and manpower histograms
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, fabrication, construction, and offshore teams to gather progress data
- Integrate subcontractor and vendor schedules into the overall project plan
- Prepare weekly and monthly schedule reports for project management and client stakeholders
- Conduct Critical Path Method (CPM) analysis and highlight potential delays or risks
- Produce short-term look-ahead schedules to support project execution planning
- Perform schedule impact assessments for project changes and variations
- Support preparation of time impact analysis (TIA) and extension-of-time documentation where required
Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in project planning and scheduling within major engineering or infrastructure projects
- Proficiency in schedule analysis techniques including CPM and progress forecasting
- Experience coordinating schedules across multiple disciplines and contractors
- Ability to analyse schedule risks and develop mitigation strategies
- Strong analytical and reporting skills with attention to detail
- Effective communication and coordination skills when working with multidisciplinary project teams
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Engineering from an accredited university
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in project planning or project controls within energy or infrastructure projects
- Experience supporting projects involving fabrication, procurement, construction, offshore installation, and commissioning
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills

The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
