The - Planning will report to the Community Development Director. This person is responsible for supporting the Planning department with the following responsibilities.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • The will play a vital role in supporting the Planning Department in the preparation of planning documents and assist in the coordination and management of tasks related to various local and regional planning topics.
  • The will develop a better understanding of the technical aspects of urban planning and how to create sustainable communities.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:


  • Assist the planning department with consulting, grants and development projects.
  • Professional networking with the team.
  • Training (OTJ) on planning and policy components (land use and zoning, urban design and physical environment, sustainability and community development)
  • Other duties as assigned.


EXPERIENCE


The - Development should have the following minimal skills:


  • An undergraduate or graduate student who is currently enrolled in a university or community college taking classes towards Geography, Planning, Environmental Science, Public Policy/Political Science, Public Administration, or other related fields.
  • Strong research skills, policy, data, and/or statistical analysis.
  • Experience preparing, writing, and presenting projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills, verbally and in writing.
  • Must be a self-starter who is extremely organized.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office programs.
  • Comprehend and follow instructions.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Work harmoniously with staff.
  • Perform simple and repetitive tasks.
  • Maintain work pace appropriate to given workload.
  • Above average organizational skills.
  • Must be flexible and able to multitask effectively.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT


  • Operate computer and office equipment
  • Work is primarily sedentary in nature
  • Valid driver's license, current insurance, vehicle available


FSLA

  • Non-Exempt


PAY

  • $20-25/hr
