Overview

Energy Jobline is supporting a major international offshore energy development and is seeking an experienced Piping & Layout Engineer to support the design and optimisation of offshore platform layouts.

The role focuses on piping design review, 3D layout coordination, and ensuring safe, efficient, and constructible plant arrangements in line with project specifications and industry standards.

 

The Role

Reporting to the Jacket Engineering Coordinator, the Piping & Layout Engineer will review and coordinate piping systems and platform layouts for offshore wellhead facilities.

Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, the role ensures alignment between piping design, structural interfaces, and overall platform configuration.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Review piping design and routing for offshore systems including production, utility, flare, and vent lines
  • Review and validate piping isometrics, general arrangement drawings, and support details
  • Verify material take-offs (MTOs), line lists, and piping specifications
  • Ensure correct selection of piping classes, valves, and inline components
  • Coordinate with stress engineers to ensure compliance with piping stress analysis requirements
  • Support development and review of 3D models using tools such as PDMS/E3D, SP3D, or AutoCAD Plant 3D
  • Ensure layouts optimise space utilisation, accessibility, safety, and maintainability
  • Incorporate operational considerations such as equipment access, escape routes, and lifting requirements
  • Participate in design reviews including 3D model reviews, HAZID, and HAZOP workshops
  • Coordinate with mechanical, structural, process, and instrumentation teams to resolve design interfaces
  • Address technical queries, design changes, and interface issues during project execution
  • Support procurement and construction teams with vendor drawing reviews and tie-in coordination
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards including ASME, API, ISO, and NORSOK
  • Maintain accurate documentation including line lists, tie-in schedules, and layout drawings

 

Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience in piping design and layout for offshore or oil & gas projects
  • Proficiency in 3D design tools such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, PDMS/E3D, or SP3D
  • Solid understanding of piping systems, components, and offshore platform layout principles
  • Knowledge of international codes and standards including ASME B31.3, API, ISO, and NORSOK
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering interfaces
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on constructability and safety

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in piping and layout engineering within energy or infrastructure projects
  • Experience working on offshore platforms or similar complex facilities
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills

 

Additional Information

The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
