Piping Foreman for HVAC and Refrigeration

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Piping Foreman is responsible for leading the installation of refrigerant piping systems for VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) and ductless mini-split HVAC systems. This includes managing crews, coordinating with other trades, maintaining project schedules and ensuring all work meets code requirements, manufacturer specifications, and company quality standards. This position reports directly to the Project Manager/HVAC Superintendent.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Supervise and lead piping crews in the field on installation of VRF and mini-split refrigerant piping systems
· Interpret construction drawings, piping schematics and manufacturer installation manuals
· Plan daily and weekly tasks, and ensure work progresses according to schedule
· Install copper refrigerant piping, branch selector boxes, and line hide systems per spec
· Perform or oversee pipe brazing, pressure testing, and nitrogen purging procedures
· Inspect pipe insulation for quality and compliance with energy code and manufacturer standards
· Ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies on job sites
· Coordinate with HVAC technicians, electricians, general contractors and suppliers
· Monitor material inventory and order supplies as needed
· Identify and troubleshoot piping layout issues or conflicts in the field
· Report progress and potential issues to project management in a timely manner
· Train and mentor apprentices and junior installers
· Maintain accurate documentation including daily reports, material logs and change orders
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum 5 years of experience in HVAC piping installation, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
· Strong working knowledge of VRF and mini-split systems (Daikin, Mitsubishi, LG, Fujitsu, etc)
· Proficient in reading mechanical and piping drawings
· Skilled in copper pipe brazing and nitrogen purging
· Familiar with industry codes and best practices (IMC, ASHRAE, manufacturer spec)
· Ability to lead and motivate a team under tight deadlines
· OSHA 10 to 30 certification
· EPA Universal certification
· Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Job sites may include commercial buildings, multi family housing, or customer residential projects
· Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, working in tight spaces, and exposure to hot or cold environments
· Work may require early starts, overtime, or weekend shifts depending on schedule
Pay & Perks:
