The LEAD Marine team aims to build trusting partnerships with candidate seeking long term opportunities in the ship building and ship repair industries nationwide. We work with some of the large international defense contractors and private yards and will leverage your work experience to match your skills with the right company.

$40.00- $60.00/Hour depending on experience

All shifts

Our client is hiring experienced Pipe Welder for a large and growing ship repair company based in San Diego. Candidates must be available for all shifts.

-Responsibilities:

  • Pipe welding candidates must be proficient in SMAW and GTAW welding processes.
  • Must first certify in FCAW production steel. 2G, 3G and 4G on 6” plate, 3/8” thick with steel backing. 1G, 2G, 3G on 12” plate, ¾” thick with ceramic backing.
  • Simulation: 2Fand 3F wrap, diagonal fillet 36” in length. In and out of corners in 2F and 3F. Water tight collar, air arcing.
  • Aluminum plate testing consists of 1G, 2G, 3G and 4G on 12” in length and ½” thick with ceramic backing and 4G with aluminum backing. Using mix gas of helium and Argon. Simulation 5XXX requirements on 6” in length and ½” thick insert with ceramic. 2F, 3F and 4F T bars.
  • SMAW- 6” Schedule 80 carbon steel, 11018 rods, 6G restricted positions, 1/8” and 3/32” butt weld with backing ring. X-ray test.
  • GTAW- 2.5” (wall 0.187”) Copper Nickel with RN-67 butt weld with backing ring. Bend test will be required. 3.5” (wall 0.95”) class 200 Copper Nickel sleeve in 4F and 5F positions.

-Requirements:

  • Candidates must have at least 4 years of pipe welding experience. Shipyard experience is a plus.
  • Must be DBIDS qualified.
  • Willing and able to work overtime and weekends when available.
