The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the University of Houston invites applications for a funded PhD position within the Beck Research Group, commencing Spring 2026 (with consideration for Fall 2026 entry). This research opportunity focuses on community impact-based performance engineering and the resilience of civil infrastructure systems.
Research Topics Include
– Structural reliability and risk assessment
– Hazard modeling and decision support
– Community resilience to natural hazards
– Interdisciplinary integration of engineering and social science
Applicant Requirements
– Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Industrial Engineering (Master’s ; exceptional Bachelor’s graduates will be considered)
– Knowledge of structural reliability, probabilistic methods, and natural hazards engineering
– Proficiency in programming (Python, MATLAB, or R)
– Familiarity with GIS or geospatial analysis tools
– Strong written and verbal communication skills
– Fieldwork experience (e.g., surveys, damage assessment) is advantageous
