Woodberry Forest School, located in Madison, VA, is an exceptional private boarding school community for high school boys in grades nine through twelve. It is one of the top boarding schools in the United States and one of the only all-boys, all-boarding schools in the country. Woodberry's 1,200-acre campus is the largest for boarding schools in Virginia, and one of the largest private school campuses in the country.
Main Purpose
Responsible for the day to day painting of all campus buildings and houses. Includes light carpenter duties as needed.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Paints interiors and exteriors of buildings and structures.
Prepares surfaces by cleaning and roughening, filling small holes, and removing old paint.
Protects surfaces that are not to be painted.
Mixes paints to match specific colors or uses premixed paint.
Applies paint using appropriate manual and mechanical tools.
May use special techniques and equipment to produce decorative effects such as marbling.
May set up scaffolding and similar structures to facilitate working.
Performs light carpenter duties including rescreening porches/windows, repairing drop ceilings, drywall patching/hanging.
Other duties as requested.
Working Conditions
Moderate physical activity. Requires extensive movement. Work environment involves exposure to temperature extremes. May be called in for work after hours.
Experience, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements
- 3 years of experience working as a painter
- Lead certification
- Knowledge of painting material and how to select, mix, and apply them
- Solid knowledge of commercial and/or construction painting techniques
- Aptitude in using appropriate tools (brushes, caulking guns, etc.)
- Manual dexterity with excellent balance to work on scaffolding, ladders, etc.
- Conscientious with great attention to detail
Education and Training Requirements
High school diploma or GED required
