Overview:
Leads the development and optimization of packaging solutions that balance product protection, user experience, cost, and sustainability. Oversees projects from concept through commercialization while driving innovation, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a packaging engineer, providing guidance, feedback, and fostering collaboration.
- Develop and execute strategic, innovative packaging solutions aligned with performance, cost, safety, and environmental goals.
- Oversee design and development of primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging for new and existing products.
- Conduct packaging tests and line trials to ensure durability through temperature shifts, transportation, and storage.
- Evaluate and select materials based on performance, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, marketing, operations, regulatory, sustainability, and project management.
- Ensure packaging integrity throughout production, logistics, and end-use.
- Partner with purchasing and production teams to assess feasibility and cost of packaging proposals.
- Manage relationships with key suppliers and stay informed on industry trends and capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, or related field
- 6–10+ years of packaging engineering experience; food industry experience
- Understanding of packaging development processes, materials performance, and specifications
- Strong materials knowledge (plastics, films, PET, corrugated, paper)
- Experience with TOPS or similar palletization/loading software
- Proficiency with CAD tools and Microsoft Office
