Purpose of Position

The Senior Packaging Manager of Design Services oversees maximizing and protecting brand equity through brand design packaging solutions. The Sr. Manager will lead organizational brand design across business units, leading design processes across internal cross functional departments and managing external agencies (including parent organizations) related to the design and commercialization process. This position also leads, trains, and develops the Brand Design Team to deliver winning solutions in packaging, ensuring accuracy and consistency of brand equity elements, and coordinating with technical services to deliver compliant packaging across all commerce channels. Actively participates in all Innovation projects providing all necessary visual conceptual images. Leads the most complex and strategic design efforts with assistance from the Design Managers and Coordinators.

Primary Duties

  • Develops and leads the organization’s annual packaging plans, program prioritization, operating practices and design systems.
  • Builds collaborative internal and external partnerships and coordinates design activities.
  • Prioritizes initiatives across all brands and channels and determines resourcing needs.
  • Develops and plans design strategy, leading initial consumer visual definition and authors the creative brief.
  • Accountable for managing agency resources to ensure successful design execution.
  • Leads, motivates, and trains the design team to meet organizational objectives.
  • Leads continuous improvement process for design and commercialization activities.
  • Leads all innovation design efforts across the organization.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of packaging experience, preferably with a food or beverage company in the consumer-packaged goods industry
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of the food industry
  • Broad knowledge of product development concepts and processes
  • Ability to apply leadership, strategic thought and innovation to new product development and business opportunities
  • Successful track record of managing agencies to develop packaging design and equity
  • Strong knowledge of the commercialization process for a wide range of substrates
  • Demonstrated experience of managing a large number of skus in development at one time
  • Experience in new product concept research validation a plus
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and evaluation skills
  • Outstanding project management skills
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications and oral presentation skills
  • Highly effective ability to collaborate, negotiate, influence, and network with a wide range of diverse groups, including senior leadership, management, external customers, and vendors
  • Able to thrive within a multi-project, cross functional environment
  • Highly organized, self-starter with the ability to manage projects with limited oversight.

Education and/or Experience B.A. / Master's degree (M. B. A.) or an equivalent; 10+ years in packaging management, preferably in Consumer Package Goods/Food.

Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.

Mathematical Skills: Basic forecasting, costing and P&L skills.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions from a large amount of data.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of most commonly used business systems and software applications in addition to Windows Office and how these systems relate to business processes.
