Outpatient Laboratory Program General Manager
United WestLabs, Inc. (“UWL”) is a health care service company that implements and manages turn-key hospital-based, laboratory outreach Programs. UWL partners with hospital systems across the country to manage pre-analytical and post-analytical service functions relating to the implementation and operation of outpatient laboratory Programs. UWL implemented its first hospital-based laboratory Program over twenty-six years ago and has successfully operated more hospital-based outpatient lab Programs than any organization in the country.
The Outpatient Laboratory Program General Manager (GM) is responsible for the oversight and operations of the western Washington regional program. The GM will lead a management team of one operations manager, a laboratory processing manager, up to two (2) field service representatives, and a supply chain manager to ensure successful daily operations, while also working to plan long term strategic direction through forecasting and data analysis.
The GM is an onsite position, however regular daily travel within the Seattle-Tacoma area is expected.
The ideal candidate for this GM position has a strong knowledge and understanding of outpatient laboratory operations, specimen testing, operations management, leadership, and strong communications skills including experience communicating complex information to hospital executive teams.
Major Responsibilities:
- Oversee the overall operation of the laboratory program.
- Direct contact between organization and executive leadership team at associated hospital facility.
- Liaison between clients and the lab to identify and resolve issues by responding to concerns and complaints from internal and external clients
- Responsible for supervision and participation in all areas of client service and operations.
- Reporting calls/visits made daily, including the purpose of the calls/visits.
- Reviewing the daily billing charges, as well as manage oversight and find resolutions to reduce the unbillable items
- Maintain constant communication and coordination with operations
- Responsible in maintaining procedures, protocols, as well as quality control and quality assurance within the program.
- Responsible for training, team building and staff development, encouraging individuals to work at their highest capability
- Provide leadership and administer all activities of the program in keeping in line with established policies and procedures to reach the goals of the company in an efficient manner and within the established budgets
- Attend and conduct meetings and prepare periodic activity and service reports.
- Review and ensure proper staffing of the program, and create an organizational culture that provides a safe, satisfying, and enriching environment and provides a qualified competent staff.
- Effectively communicate and resolve personnel issues through the Human Resources Manager
- Effectively report and resolve all compliance issues through the Chief Compliance Officer
Required abilities and Working Conditions:
- At least 5 years’ experience in a clinical laboratory setting
- BS/BA in Business Administration or related scientific field
- Ability to plan and prioritize work
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to lead, motivate and develop staff
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret contracts, policies, documents and regulations.
- Ability to use spreadsheets, presentation graphics, word processing, and database computer software
- Extensive knowledge of laboratory terminology, procedures and compliance
- The position is subject to stress caused by a changing environment, tight deadlines and workload
