Scope:
The Optical Systems Test Engineer (OSTE) will be responsible for the incoming inspection, test execution, data collection, and inventory control of optical components and systems. As the organization scales into higher-volume hardware testing, this role will own the day-to-day coordination of test assets, setup of test stations, execution of test protocols, and documentation of results. The OSTE will ensure clean data practices, part tracking, and proactive communication with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
• Perform optical and electrical testing on incoming photonics components (e.g., OPAs, PICs, fiber assemblies).
• Coordinate inventory tracking, labeling, and storage using traveler systems.
• Prepare and maintain test stations and optical lab tools.
• Capture and analyze test data; summarize and report results to engineering teams.
• Ensure neatness, organization, and traceability across all parts and lab assets.
• Collaborate with engineering to follow and improve test procedures.
Required:
• 6+ years of industry experience in a high-tech role (e.g., test engineering, applications engineering).
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics (optics, mechanical, electronics strongly ).
• Solid understanding of optics, physics, and electronics fundamentals.
• Background in high-volume optical inspection or precision metrology environments.
• Familiar with lab tools such as:
- Power meters, visible/IR cameras, opto-mechanical stages, lasers, fiber optics.
- Thorlabs, Newport, Edmund Optics catalogs and components.
• Exceptional organization and documentation skills.
Pluses:
• Hands-on experience with PICs, OPAs, interferometry, or other advanced photonic systems.
• Familiarity with test data visualization and automation frameworks.
• Proficient in Python scripting and comfortable navigating software-controlled test environments.
Estimated Min Rate: $40.00
Estimated Max Rate: $45.00
