Operator Maintenance

This position performs skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor tasks in roadway maintenance. It also provides support for emergency roadway operations as an essential employee.
Key Responsibilities

Emergency Operations: Operate equipment for snow and ice removal and other emergencies. Clear roadways of snow, ice, debris, and accident sites. Provide traffic control as needed.

Equipment Operations: Safely operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment and vehicles for maintenance and construction tasks.

Job Safety: Apply proper worksite protection techniques. Identify hazards and suggest improvements. Follow OSHA, VOSHA, and MUTCD standards. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.

Manual Labor: Perform manual labor as part of a roadway crew. Use hand and power tools to complete maintenance and repair tasks.

Preventive Maintenance: Conduct pre-trip inspections, routine repairs, replacements, and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

Traffic Control Devices: Install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices for work zones, detours, and lane closures in compliance with MUTCD standards. Assist with inventory and record keeping.

Skills in operating and maintaining hand tools, power tools, and a wide range of highway maintenance equipment.

Ability to obtain a valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain compliance thereafter.
Minimum Qualifications

Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Ability to obtain CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months and maintain compliance.

Ability to perform heavy manual labor and follow oral/written instructions.

Knowledge of highway maintenance practices and procedures.

Safety shoes required.

Skill in operating and maintaining tools and equipment used in highway maintenance and repair.
Additional Considerations
-
Training, education, or experience in maintenance, vehicle operations, or a related field.

Experience in emergency operations, including snow removal, storm response, and accident clean-up.

Experience in roadway maintenance and construction.

Experience performing preventive maintenance and minor equipment repairs.

Valid Commercial Drivers License with endorsements .
