About the Role

At Ship Essential, the Operations Manager is defined by flow. You are the orchestrator of the entire inventory lifecycle—ensuring that goods move seamlessly from the moment they hit the dock to the moment they leave the building. You will lead a high-performing team of Functional Leads, driving clarity, urgency, and throughput in a fast-paced, city-based fulfillment environment.

The success of this role is measured by how efficiently product is received and orders are fulfilled - including how inventory becomes available and how reliably we meet SLAs. You are not a micromanager; you are a proactive problem-solver who rebalances labor in real-time, removes operational roadblocks, and maintains an unwavering commitment to execution.

Key Responsibilities\n

1. Orchestrate End-to-End Inventory Flow\n

• Inventory Velocity: Own the movement of inventory from inbound delivery through to outbound shipment, ensuring every item has a "destiny to be picked".

\n

• Throughput Optimization: Identify "stuck" inventory, idle zones, or bottlenecks and coordinate with Leads to immediately resolve breakdowns in flow.

\n

• Space Utilization: Oversee slotting and overstock strategies to maximize picking efficiency and maintain a high standard of warehouse housekeeping.

\n

2. Team Leadership & Performance Management\n

\n
• Lead Management: Direct and coach Functional Leads across Receiving, Inventory, Returns, Picking, Packing, and Exceptions.

\n

• Accountability: Hold teams accountable to daily targets, SOP adherence, and timely escalation of issues.

\n

• Labor Planning: Develop and maintain labor plans that align with fluctuating demand, ensuring adequate staffing for peak periods without overextending resources.

\n

3. Operational Excellence & SLA Compliance\n

• SLA Execution: Maintain a sharp focus on outbound SLAs, ensuring all orders placed before cutoff are shipped same-day.

\n

• Daily Rhythm: Lead the "Flow Huddle" each morning to review targets and conduct mid-day check-ins to adjust team focus as needed.

\n

• Quality Control: Audit key workflows to ensure every unit is traceable and staging zones remain organized.

\n

\n

4. Stakeholder Collaboration\n

\n
• Brand Alignment: Partner with Warehouse Account Managers (WAMs) to execute special handling, time-sensitive orders, and brand-specific priorities.

\n

• Managing Up: Provide the General Manager with high-quality, forward-looking communication, surfacing risks early and proposing structural improvements.

\n

Requirements\n

\n
• Experience: 3–5 years of leadership experience in a high-volume warehouse or fulfillment center.

\n

• Technical Proficiency: Strong familiarity with Warehouse Management Systems (ShipHero ) and labor planning tools.

\n

• Proven Track Record: Experience in process engineering or continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean) is a significant plus.

\n

• Schedule: Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, which may include a "later start" (e.g., 11AM-8:30PM) to support end-of-night fulfillment and volume spikes.

\n
