ABOUT THE ROLE

Burton Design & Construction, LLC (BDC) is seeking a highly capable and motivated Operations Manager to join our growing, fast-paced residential construction firm. This role is central to ensuring operational excellence across all active projects, internal processes, and cross-functional teams.

The Operations Manager is responsible for driving consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement across project execution, resource utilization, financial controls, and internal workflows. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong judgment, problem-solving ability, and the confidence to address issues as they arise in a dynamic construction environment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Operations Manager oversees company-wide operational performance, ensuring that projects are executed efficiently, consistently, and in alignment with BDC’s processes, standards, and financial objectives. This role serves as the operational backbone of the organization supporting Project Managers, leadership, and field teams by removing obstacles, improving systems, and enforcing best practices.

The Operations Manager is expected to proactively identify risks, solve problems, and respond to urgent operational issues as they arise. Availability to support the team and business needs is critical.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Operational Leadership & Process Management

  • Ensure all company operations are carried out efficiently, cost-effectively, and in compliance with applicable laws, contracts, and company policies
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve operational systems, workflows, and best practices across the organization
  • Ensure all active projects adhere to BDC’s defined project lifecycle, standards, and operating procedures
  • Act as the escalation point for operational issues impacting schedule, cost, quality, or client satisfaction

Project Oversight & Performance Management

  • Oversee all in-flight projects to ensure consistency in execution, documentation, communication, and controls
  • Conduct weekly and monthly Project Manager process reviews, including schedule health, budget status, risk items, and corrective actions
  • Monitor project performance metrics and dashboards; identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
  • Partner with Project Managers to proactively resolve issues before they impact clients or financial outcomes

Financial & Resource Management

  • Track company-wide resource utilization, workload capacity, and staffing alignment
  • Examine financial and operational data to improve profitability, forecasting accuracy, and cost controls
  • Manage operational budgets, project projections, and variance analysis in collaboration with leadership
  • Support leadership with operational reporting and insights to inform decision-making

Quality Control & Compliance

  • Provide oversight for all incoming and outgoing subcontract agreements, contracts, invoices, and key operational communications
  • Ensure documentation accuracy, completeness, and adherence to company standards
  • Support quality control efforts to maintain high standards of workmanship and service delivery

People, HR & Cross-Functional Support

  • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and supervision of staff in partnership with leadership and HR
  • Assist HR with onboarding processes, time-off coordination, and employee compliance matters
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and solutions-oriented culture across teams
  • Identify training or process gaps and recommend improvements

Customer Experience

  • Identify opportunities to improve the quality, consistency, and professionalism of customer service
  • Ensure operational practices support strong client communication, transparency, and satisfaction

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2+ years of operations experience; construction industry experience strongly
  • Construction Project Management experience is a significant plus
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • High level of reliability, integrity, and professionalism
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and proactively seek out information
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, changing environment with competing priorities
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively across teams

Technical & Systems Skills

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams)
  • Experience with construction management software (e.g., Buildertrend)
  • Comfortable learning and enforcing standardized processes and systems

ABSOLUTE MUSTS

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to engage, speak up and drive a conversation.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English; bilingual a plus
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel locally between job sites and offices
  • Working in the office. We believe working together in the office every day helps build team centricity and learning.

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Additional education or certifications in construction management, operations, or business are a plus

WHO YOU REPORT TO

You will report to the Operations Leader, who oversees all BDC regions and helps ensure consistency, alignment, and operational excellence across teams.

LOCATION & TRAVEL EXPECTATIONS

  • Primary office: Malibu, CA
  • We are a work in the office culture (this is a requirement) and value team members who come to the office, work together, collaborate and learn from each other. The core hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Travel may occasionally be required between BDC locations
