Job Description:
The Operations Manager (Inbound and Outbound) is responsible for managing all day-to-day activities related to either the receiving (inbound) or shipping (outbound) function of the production area/warehouse. This role ensures operational efficiency, team productivity, and compliance with safety and quality standards while meeting company KPIs and customer service expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the receipt of all incoming goods, including unloading, inspection, and put-away to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Coordinate delivery schedules and maintain open communication with carriers and vendors for timely inbound logistics.
- Ensure timely and accurate data entry of received inventory into WMS and/or ERP systems.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies or damages in partnership with inventory control and quality assurance teams.
- Maintain accurate inventory and receiving records through cross-functional collaboration.
- Manage all aspects of order fulfillment, including sorting, picking, packing, staging, and shipment processing.
- Ensure all inbound and outbound shipments meet established quality and timeliness standards.
- Coordinate closely with transportation carriers and dispatch teams to execute on-time deliveries.
- Verify accuracy of shipping documentation including Bills of Lading (BOLs), labels, and load sheets.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in order accuracy, load efficiency, and dock operations.
- Resolve order-related or customer service issues quickly and effectively.
- Adhere to all Food Defense, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and HACCP program requirements.
- Own and execute all Quality Management System (QMS) processes relevant to ECP operations.
- Ensure compliance with general safety and regulatory requirements, including CBP, OSHA, USDA/APHIS, FDA, and Texas state regulations.
- Supervise, train, and mentor team members to enhance overall performance and engagement.
- Set team goals, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance evaluations.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement strategic process improvements.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and execute operational strategies aligned with business goals.
- Successfully manage daily operations and productivity of a dynamic temporary workforce.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Operations Management, Supply Chain, or a related field (required).
- 3–7 years of progressive experience in operations, logistics, warehouse, or supply chain management.
- Experience in the Food or Produce specific industry in a plus.
- Proven leadership in managing cross-functional teams and warehouse/production operations.
- Experience with WMS (Warehouse Management Systems), ERP systems, and inventory control processes
- Experience implementing food safety and food defense procedures and practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Understanding of compliance regulations (OSHA, FDA, USDA, CBP, GMP, HACCP).
- Ability to coach, mentor, and develop employees at all levels.
- Experience managing temporary and full-time staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with vendors, carriers, internal teams, and senior leadership
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proven ability to drive efficiency, process improvements, and streamline operations.
- Willingness to work flexible hours as needed (including nights/weekends in peak periods).
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is regularly exposed to energized electrical gear, moving mechanical parts, tools and vehicles. Also, the employee is occasionally exposed to low permissible levels of ionizing radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Constant work in temperatures averaging 41F is required.
