GENERAL SUMMARY:
This is a salaried position in City of Industry, CA that reports to the Plant Manager. The Operations Manager is responsible for the manufacturing & regulatory compliance of the City of Industry plant & includes developing & leading the people & processes in the areas of production, & sanitation.
SCOPE OF JOB FUNCTION:
- Manage production, & sanitation budgets for labor, material, & overhead.
- Mentor & coach supervisors & employees for success & encourage the leaders to mentor & develop all personnel.
- Oversee the leadership team by monitoring efficiencies, conducting reviews, counseling sessions, evaluations & by keeping up to date records.
- Ensure that financial objectives are met for budgetary control of all expenses including yield, labor, overtime, operating supplies & facilities expenses.
- Ensure proper processing of product by monitoring all operations, including production, packaging, maintenance, etc., as well as equipment, cleanliness, & personnel.
- Monitor all phases of production to ensure that all procedures, specifications, standards & budgets are met by maintaining effective communication with all employees.
- Participate in developing strategical plan for operations departments, including personnel development & allocation & equipment choice, & optimization.
- Develop a hands-on, working understanding of the technologies & processes for making dressings & condiments.
- Ensure that all administrative systems (including Ross ERP, payroll, employee training, performance evaluations, etc.) are fully supported with accurate, timely & complete data entry.
- Ensure that operations objectives, including OEE, yield, labor, overtime, are met; all the above are leading indicators that will allow full control of all expenses.
- Maintain even flow of work by being organized & planning, adjusting, & making changes as needed.
- Ensure Compliance (Safety, GMP & Food Safety) is constantly the focus for the operation team.
- Working closely with the Director of Human Resources Operations in supporting all safety initiatives & following the GFF’s safety program to ensure compliance within OSHA regulations & company policies.
- Working with quality, monitor & administer IFS & HACCP programs, insisting on accurate, complete, & timely compliance.
- Assure correct communication flow between production & maintenance to guarantee the best equipment’s performances & minimize downtime.
- Lead the continuous improvement efforts for productivity, product quality, customer service & safety ensuring operations goals are met by overseeing the production, maintenance, & sanitation departments.
- Be a process owner for LDMS, SPC & DBR system currently implemented.
- Be a partner for continuous improvement initiative with specific focus on efficiency improvement.
- Be a hands-on leader, leading by example, pull the whole team toward a culture of excellence & continuous improvement.
- Identify, justify, & implement new manufacturing technologies to enhance quality & drive down costs & support strategic direction for future product & process improvements within manufacturing.
- Chair the daily L3 meeting & assure L1 & L2 regularly happen providing enough insights for daily data analysis, root causes & countermeasures identification.
- Work with the Plant Manager to prepare annual budget & monthly forecast, follow & explain variations budget vs. actual.
- Keep up to date & on the leading edge of technologies & innovations in the industry.
- Work closely with the Plant Manager to develop new programs, while sustaining the existing ones, to achieve leading & lagging indicators’ targets.
Requirements:
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
- B.A./B.S. from a 4-year College or University in related field (Business, Engineering, Food Science).
- 3 years’ minimum production manufacturing experience required in the food industry.
- Knowledge of food processing & demonstrated strengths in mechanically oriented manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of Six Sigma & Lean Manufacturing.
- Computer literate & proficient with MS Office suite of applications.
- Be able to work various shifts, weekends & holidays as require.
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.
- Written & verbal communication skills & the ability to present complex technical issues in a clear & concise manner.
- Ability to build positive cross-functional & intra plant relationships with both internal & external peers & stakeholders.
- Ability to speak English.
- Willingness to learn new tasks & being dependable.
- Must possess good organizational skills.
DESIRED:
- Project management skills & knowledge of years minimum .
- Union environment experience a plus.
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish a big plus.
