Essential Functions:
The O&M Technician is responsible for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the plant. This includes adhering to all OMPA policies and procedures, continuously monitoring plant systems, responding to alarms, executing plant startup/shutdown procedures, and performing necessary maintenance. The technician ensures the plant meets its generating requirements while operating safely and efficiently. The position will include a rotating shift schedule.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Takes direction form the SO (O&M III) but will report to the Operations Manager.
- Responsible for the overall operation of the plant, in a safe manner and resulting in no accidents. Must be following all environmental and company policies and procedures.
- Responsible for all phases of combined cycle, simple cycle, and hydro power plant operations.
- Use computers and monitoring equipment to measure, record and adjust within operating parameters. This includes starting, stopping, and monitoring equipment on plant DCS systems, as well as reading gauges, meters, and recording activities in operating logs. Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs).
- Perform a variety of plant maintenance tasks including diagnosis, maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, and economical manner.
- Assist with equipment overhaul maintenance and system improvement tasks.
- Operate water treatment plant and perform chemical analysis and chemical control on steam, cooling and condensate systems, and maintain chemistry logs.
- Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
- Assist in the development of Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP’s).
- Ensure compliance with all local, State and Federal regulations and plant procedures.
- Regularly required to monitor plant security, operate heavy equipment such as man-lifts and forklifts, and handle/transfer bulk chemicals.
- Maintains and repairs maintenance shop equipment.
- Monitors the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiates reordering when necessary.
- This is a safety sensitive position, a job or position where the employee holding this position has the responsibility for his/her own safety and the safety of other people. An employee must be with clear mind and diligent while occupying such positions.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Knowledge of a specialized field (however acquired), such as basic accounting, computer skills, etc.
- High school or GED, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area, e.g. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc., plus 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
