Operations Assistant Manager

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Feedyard Operations Supervisor will oversee and coordinate all major feedyard departments, ensuring optimal cattle performance, operational efficiency, and employee safety.
Primary areas of responsibility include:
Cross-Departmental Coordination

Facilitate teamwork, communication, and accountability across cattle, feed, mill, and maintenance departments.

Align daily operations with production goals and animal health standards.
Departmental Oversight
Cattle Department
-
Supervise receiving, processing, shipping, and health protocols for all cattle.

Manage hospital system quality control and treatment accuracy.
-
Develop production schedules (implant programs, days on feed, marketing timelines).

Maintain accurate cattle and pharmaceutical inventories.
Mill Department
-
Oversee ingredient receiving, grain processing, and mill housekeeping.

Ensure quality control and accurate inventory of feed and micro-ingredients.

Maintain mill equipment and feed loader operations.
Feed Department
-
Direct feed program execution and bunk management.
-
Ensure timely, accurate feed delivery and truck maintenance.

Monitor feed quality and consistency.
Maintenance Department

Oversee repair and upkeep of all rolling stock, facilities, and equipment.

Maintain fuel and parts inventory, waste management, and water systems (wells, storage tanks, troughs, plumbing).
Safety & Compliance

Lead monthly safety meetings and promote a strong safety culture.

Model safe practices, monitor compliance, and address unsafe behaviors.

Encourage employee input to strengthen safety programs.
Administrative & Strategic Support

Support departmental scheduling, capital expenditure planning, and budget management.

Partner with consultants (nutritionists, veterinarians, environmental, and safety advisors).

Engage in customer service and client relations as needed.
IDEAL CANDIDATE / LEADERSHIP STYLE
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with proven experience in feedyard or large-scale cattle operations. They will balance day-to-day operational management with long-term leadership development, striving to build cohesive, high-performing teams.

Qualifications

Prior supervisory or management experience required.
