Post-Doctoral Researcher
The portfolio of work in the NMR and NQR facilities at LANL is rapidly expanding to include a suite of radiological materials. These materials are critical for developing the next of nuclear reactors. Additionally, the first ever measurement of the optical transition of 229Th was recently measured, and our team is involved in a to discover and characterize new materials for a Th-based nuclear clock. We are looking for a motivated post-doctoral researcher experienced in magnetic resonance spectroscopic techniques who is interested in joining our interdisciplinary team in the search for new radiological materials. You will use high-field solid-state NMR and NQR to measure the local structure of materials; use these measurements to predict structure/function relationships; develop new equipment and methods for the safe measurement of radioactive materials. Join us to push the limits of magnetic resonance.
Minimum job requirements:
Demonstrated experience in magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR, NQR, EPR, DNP)
A willingness to work with radioactive materials including U, Th and Pu.
Strong technical and interpersonal communication and skills both orally and in writing evidenced by a strong publication and presentation record.
Creative and proactive approach to scientific problem solving.
Desired skills:
Experience with data analysis and signal processing techniques using programming such as Python or Matlab.
Experience in using DFT methods to predict NMR/NQR spectral parameters.
Experience running custom experimental equipment.
Education/experience:
A Ph.D. in chemistry, material science, physics, engineering and/or a related field.
The candidate must have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of the appointment and be within 5 years of completion of the Ph.D.
Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Salary: Competitive salaries are based on the date the PhD degree requirements were completed or the degree was awarded. The starting salary for a new graduate is currently $97,000.
