Data Scientist (Pending Award)
Lexical Intelligence provides software and services related to processing large-scale biomedical information sources. Our Natural Processing (NLP) and analytics software is used by policy and decision makers to evaluate and prioritize current and emerging areas of research.
We are looking for a Subject Matter Expert Data Scientist to work within the Library of Medicine (NLM). The Data Scientist will have experience in medical informatics, knowledge processing, information systems, image processing, high-performance computing, and information visualization. Specific areas of expertise shall include but not limited to natural processing, linguistics, consumer health informatics, cross- translation and retrieval, data mining, human-computer interaction, telemedicine, and evaluation analysis. The Data Scientist shall be able to work well within a team of researchers, developers, and healthcare professionals. The selected applicant will be subject to a pre-employment background and reference check.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in data science, statistics, computer science, or related fields
- Experience processing, cleaning, and validating data integrity
- Strong understanding of statistical analysis methods including regression analysis and predictive modeling
- Proficiency with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Splunk, Google Analytics
- Experience with programming such as Python, R, or SAS
- Knowledge of machine learning and deep learning algorithms
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in data science, statistics, computer science, biomedical informatics, or related field
- 5+ years of experience in biomedical informatics, medical data science, or related field
- Experience with data linkages and conducting longitudinal studies using clinical data
- Knowledge of NLP techniques to extract information from unstructured text
- Experience with large models (LLMs) and AI tools for synthesizing research findings
- Familiarity with FISMA requirements and secure handling of PHI/PII
- Experience with cloud computing environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Background in clinical data analytics and healthcare informatics
- Experience with data harmonization and data integration across multiple sources
- Knowledge of database systems including SQL, MongoDB, and ElasticSearch
Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with organizational security and privacy policies, protecting sensitive data and systems, reporting security incidents, and participating in required cybersecurity training. The role may also involve implementing best practices related to access control, data handling, and risk mitigation within the scope of assigned duties.
