Next-Generation-Sequencing (NGS) Scientist

· We are seeking to hire an associate scientist to help support the Next-Generation-Sequencing (NGS) team to increase throughput and decrease turnaround times for the delivery of clinical and pre-clinical projects supported by the GRC.

· The successful candidates will report to the NGS Operations Lead and work closely with all members in NGS Operations team and be responsible for performing sample management, nucleic acid quality control, and delivery of normalized nucleic acids for downstream workflows nucleic acid quality control assays necessary to complete NGS projects.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

· Work with NGS team to perform nucleic acid quality control assays necessary to complete genetic and genomic profiling

· Operate and maintain NGS and its supportive platforms within centralized technology group

· Perform nucleic acid normalization and plating

· Maintain sample inventory pre- and post-NGS library prep

· Accurate process record keeping within LIMS

· Effective and open communication with supervisors and teammates about project needs and status updates such as troubleshooting and adjusted timelines

· Prepares results summaries for downstream analysis pipelines

 

Qualifications:

· Bachelor of molecular biology, medical technologies, or-related degree, with 2+ years of wet lab experience in industry or academic lab

· Hands-on experience with general molecular biology laboratory work

· Experience and knowledge of nucleic acid quality control assays

· Experience with high-throughput genomic profiling technologies with emphasis on NGS platforms and library preparation workflows preferred

· Ability to follow established protocols

· LIMS, sample tracking, and workflow optimization experience preferred-

· Strong attention to detail and task orientation

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment to drive multiple projects forward

· Collaborative team experience within a centralized molecular technology group

· Flexible within a rapidly changing and demanding environment

 

What are the top 3-5 skills, experience or education required for this position:

· Hands-on experience with general molecular biology laboratory work

· Adherence to established standard operating procedures (SOPs)

· Knowledge of Nucleic Acid quality control assays

· Proficiency utilizing MS Windows and Office, especially Excel

· Excellent skills of oral and written communication, collaboration, and attention to detail and ability to adapt and thrive within a rapidly changing environment
