Network Design Engineer
Location: Basingstoke (hybrid)
Salary: £55,000–£60,000 (DOE) + £6,000 car allowance + 10% bonus
Security Clearance Requirement:
Due to the nature of the work, you must be eligible for DV Clearance – this means you must be a sole British passport holder.
We are seeking an experienced Network Design Engineer to join a high-performing team. This is a project delivery role – not a support desk position – with a strong emphasis on network security.
You will work alongside other design engineers to understand business and technical requirements, produce design collateral, ensure solutions meet governance and security standards, and provide hands-on configuration, implementation, and troubleshooting support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deploy functional networks (LAN, WAN) to meet customer needs.
- Implement network security measures, including IDS/IPS, firewalls, and secure zones.
- Configure and troubleshoot network devices across multiple vendors (Cisco, Juniper, F5, Gigamon).
- Support project delivery from requirements gathering through to operational acceptance.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements and resolve technical challenges.
- Maintain detailed documentation, including network diagrams and operational procedures.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to skills development within the team.
- Evaluate and recommend new networking technologies.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong networking knowledge with certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP or Juniper JNCIS-ENT.
- Experience with routing protocols, VPNs, and virtual routing instances.
- Proficiency in Cisco and Juniper network design and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with network security products and processes.
- Understanding of network management and monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios).
- Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.
Additional Beneficial Skills:
- Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM, Proxmox, etc.).
- Knowledge of data centre networking.
