NDT Field Technician/Lab Technician I

Duration: Until April 9TH 2027 (with a possibility of extension)

Location: Jackson, MI (Onsite)

Overview:

We are seeking a Radiography Technician to join our Nondestructive Testing (NDT) team. This is a compliance-driven role focused on inspecting critical infrastructure and ensuring safety and quality standards are met. The team consists of approximately 23 technicians who travel across the Lower Peninsula of Michigan to perform inspections at various job sites.

This role requires frequent travel, hands-on fieldwork, and adherence to strict safety and procedural guidelines, including working with radioactive materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel daily to various job sites across the Lower Peninsula of Michigan.
  • Perform inspections on new construction projects, pipelines and pipeline welds, structural welds at industrial plants, bucket trucks, lifting devices, and wind turbines.
  • Conduct radiographic testing using radiation equipment.
  • Work in teams of two technicians on assigned projects.
  • Follow detailed procedures, compliance standards, and acceptance criteria.
  • Operate and drive company vehicles to and from job sites as needed.

Work Schedule:

  • The average work week is 53–55 hours.
  • Overtime is expected.
  • Weekend work is generally voluntary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience following structured procedures and compliance standards is required.
  • A background in Quality Assurance (QA) or Quality Control (QC) is .
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
  • The ability to travel frequently and work at various field locations is required.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.

Training Requirement:

  • A 40-hour Radiation Safety Test, provided by CMS Energy, is required.
  • This must be completed after the first week of employment.
  • The assessment includes math components.

Background Check Requirements:

  • Due to the nature of working with radioactive materials, an enhanced background check is required.
  • This includes a drug screening, DMV check, and education and employment verification.
  • Fingerprinting will be required after the start date.

Additional Information:

  • This is a field-based role with significant travel.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working in industrial environments and handling radiation equipment.
  • A strong emphasis is placed on safety, compliance, and teamwork.
