ARES is seeking a Multimedia Systems Engineer to provide (advanced technical support for NASA Armstrong’s multimedia and IT systems, ensuring reliable, secure, and compliant mission-critical operations across studio, field, and mobile environments for Armstrong Flight Research Center’s Video Department in support of the NASA Enterprise Multimedia and Integrated Technical Services (eMITS) contract. eMITS is the Agency’s enterprise-level contract creating and delivering multimedia and technical communications using the internet, digital platforms, and IT management for NASA’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and Office of Communications (OCOMM). From photographing rocket launches and recoveries, to producing engaging videos, to information technology management, to using social media to share NASA’s message, eMITS integrates services for NASA IT and provides NASA’s communication to the outside world. JOB DESCRIPTION / FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Multimedia Systems Engineer IV will provide advanced technical support for multimedia and broadcast systems in support of NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center’s video operations. This includes studio, field, and mobile production systems, as well as livestreaming, archiving, and compliance-related tasks. The engineer will work closely with the lead engineer to ensure system reliability, security, and readiness for mission-critical operations.

This position is essential to maintaining continuity of service, reducing risk, and enabling proactive maintenance and compliance across a complex and evolving technical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of broadcast and multimedia systems, including:

o Video routers, production switchers, audio mixers, encoders/decoders, DVRs, and VTRs

o Dante-based audio networks and IP-based video systems

o Studio and field camera systems, lighting, and control room infrastructure

• Assist with mobile television van operations, including microwave transmission systems and field deployments

• Perform preventive maintenance and system testing to ensure operational readiness

• Support compliance with federal cybersecurity and documentation requirements (e.g., NIST 800-53, NASA RISCS)

• Maintain and update system documentation, diagrams, and inventory records

• Provide surge support for live events, flight operations, and off-site productions

• Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to maintain secure and resilient systems

• Assist in the development and execution of system upgrades and modernization efforts

EDUCATION AND PREVIOUS WORK REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronics, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and 12 experience

• 6–10 years of experience in broadcast engineering, multimedia systems, or live production environments

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electronics, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Active DOD Clearance is Required

• 6–10 years of experience in broadcast engineering, multimedia systems, or live production environments

• Strong understanding of digital and analog video/audio systems, signal flow, and IP-based transmission

• Experience with:

o Dante, AVB, and digital audio routing

o Streaming protocols and platforms (e.g., vMix, YouTube, AWS, Zoom)

o Fiber optics, SDI/HD/UHD standards, and RF systems

o Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems

• Ability to read and create technical diagrams and documentation (Visio, CAD, etc.)

• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently under pressure

• Excellent communication and organizational skills

• Ability to lift 50 lbs and support field deployments as needed

• Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on mission needs

• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneNote, OneDrive), SharePoint, and Box.

Qualifications:

• Experience supporting NASA or federal government multimedia operations

• Familiarity with NASA cybersecurity documentation systems (e.g., RISCS)

• Experience with mobile broadcast systems and remote production workflows

• Knowledge of satellite transmission, IPTV, and wireless video systems (e.g., Teradek)
