About the Opportunity

LHH Recruitment Solutions has partnered with a fast-growing technology company to hire a Principal Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) to lead the development, deployment, and long-term maturity of MBSE practices across the engineering organization. This role will architect and implement modeling frameworks, define governance and standards, and serve as the primary driver of MBSE adoption for upcoming aerospace programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and launch a comprehensive MBSE framework that supports current programs and long-term engineering goals
  • Build and refine system architecture models that connect requirements, verification strategies, and program objectives
  • Establish and enforce modeling standards, data structures, and configuration controls across engineering functions
  • Create, manage, and evolve SysML-based models to illustrate system behavior, interfaces, functions, and traceability
  • Embed MBSE practices into workflows across systems, software, hardware, avionics, testing, and certification teams
  • Lead model-driven analyses that inform design choices, technical trade-offs, and program-level risk assessments
  • Support compliance activities by ensuring models align with safety, regulatory, and certification requirements
  • Train and guide engineers on MBSE tools, modeling techniques, and best-practice methodologies
  • Champion adoption of model-based engineering by driving awareness, alignment, and consistent use across the organization
  • Coordinate MBSE deliverables to align with engineering schedules, baselines, and performance milestones
  • Continuously evaluate current modeling practices and implement improvements that enhance scalability and rigor

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 5+ years of systems engineering experience, with at least 3+ years implementing MBSE
  • Advanced proficiency with SysML and tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, MagicDraw, or equivalent
  • Experience establishing architecture frameworks and MBSE governance from the ground up
  • Strong knowledge of aerospace system lifecycles, including certification and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to mentor engineering teams on modeling methods and tools

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Experience developing novel, first-of-kind aerospace or unmanned systems
  • Background with high-altitude, remote-sensing, or airborne platforms
  • Experience working in a growth-stage or rapidly scaling aerospace environment

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range: $135,000-$145,000

Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, PTO and paid holidays

Pay Details: $135,000.00 to $145,000.00 per year
