Overview

Energy Jobline is supporting a major international energy infrastructure programme and is seeking an experienced MLP Shop Inspector to oversee quality assurance activities during the manufacturing and assembly of mechanically lined pipelines.

The role will focus on verifying the integrity and compliance of Mechanically Lined Pipe (MLP) manufacturing processes used for corrosion-resistant pipeline systems within offshore energy projects.

The Role

Reporting to the Project QA/QC Manager or Deck Yard QC Superintendent, the MLP Shop Inspector will provide inspection and surveillance during pipe manufacturing, expansion, and sealing processes within pipe mills and fabrication facilities.

The position will ensure all lined pipe components meet project specifications, engineering requirements, and international pipeline standards prior to release for installation.

Key Responsibilities

• Witness insertion of corrosion-resistant alloy (CRA) liners into carbon steel carrier pipes during the telescoping process
• Monitor hydraulic or mechanical expansion processes to confirm compliance with approved manufacturing procedures
• Inspect final pipe dimensions including liner thickness, carrier pipe wall thickness, and interference fit tolerances
• Conduct internal inspections to identify potential liner defects such as wrinkling, scoring, or deformation
• Witness and verify weld overlay end-seal installation used to protect the liner interface
• Review welding procedures and qualifications associated with end-seal welds
• Verify material chemistry and cladding properties through positive material identification (PMI) testing
• Witness hydrostatic testing of finished pipe joints to confirm structural integrity
• Monitor non-destructive testing activities including UT and PT inspections of end-seal welds
• Ensure full traceability between carrier pipe materials, CRA liners, and manufacturing documentation
• Maintain inspection logs, reports, and non-conformance records where deviations occur
• Review vendor manufacturing documentation and support compilation of manufacturing record books

Skills & Experience

• Strong understanding of mechanically lined pipeline manufacturing and expansion processes
• Knowledge of corrosion-resistant alloys and interference fit principles used in lined pipe systems
• Experience inspecting weld overlay end-seals and CRA cladding applications
• Familiarity with NDT inspection methods including UT and PT testing
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, fabrication documentation, and pipeline specifications
• Knowledge of relevant standards such as API 5LD and DNV pipeline design guidelines

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Materials, or Pipeline Engineering
• Mandatory CSWIP 3.1 or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
• ASNT Level II certification in UT and PT
• Minimum 8 years’ experience within oil & gas or energy pipeline projects
• At least 5 years’ experience inspecting lined or clad pipe manufacturing processes
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills

The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
