Position Summary

At POLYWOOD, we’re redefining what it means to build sustainably—crafting beautiful, durable outdoor products using recycled materials and innovative manufacturing processes. As a Metal Fabrication CAD/CAM Engineer, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the metal components that form the backbone of our premium furniture. From intricate brackets to precision weldments, your work will ensure every metal part is designed, programmed, and fabricated with excellence.

In this role, you will use your expertise in SolidWorks and Mastercam to create and optimize 3D CAD models, generate accurate CAM programs, and write CNC code that drives our cutting-edge metal fabrication equipment. You'll collaborate closely with production, welding, and assembly teams to troubleshoot challenges, validate programs through hands-on trial runs, and continuously refine processes for efficiency and quality.

More than a programmer, you’ll be a technical problem-solver and process innovator, working at the intersection of engineering and production to reduce waste, improve manufacturability, and support POLYWOOD’s mission of continuous improvement and sustainability. If you thrive in a collaborative environment, enjoy getting hands-on to bring ideas to life, and are energized by solving complex manufacturing puzzles, this is your opportunity to make a lasting impact on a company that values craftsmanship, innovation, and stewardship.

Selling Points:

  • Growth potential
  • You would be joining an AWESOME team
  • Collaborative environment

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and modify 3D CAD models for metal components, parts, and assemblies using Solidworks or similar software.
  • Generate CAM programs specifically for metal fabrication processes (e.g., cutting, bending, welding, and machining) utilizing Mastercam or equivalent software.
  • Create, modify, and maintain CNC programs for metalworking equipment (lasers, press brakes, machining centers) with a focus on precision and efficiency.
  • Conduct trial runs and test pieces on CNC machines to validate programming and ensure adherence to metal fabrication specifications and tolerances.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed fabrication drawings and production documentation, including weld symbols, material specifications, and finishing details.
  • Collaborate with Production teams to implement Engineering Change Requests, aiming to streamline metal fabrication workflows, improve part quality, and reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Work closely with Fabrication, Welding, and Assembly teams to troubleshoot issues related to CNC programming, fixturing, material handling, and tooling.
  • Provide on-the-floor technical support, training, and education to production personnel related to metal fabrication processes and equipment setups.
  • Ensure all designs and processes comply with safety standards, manufacturing best practices, and quality control procedures specific to metalworking.

Requirements:

  • 3–5 years of hands-on experience programming and setting up CNC machines for metal fabrication (laser cutting, CNC punching, machining, etc.).
  • Proficient in creating CAM programs using Mastercam or similar for metal-specific applications.
  • Advanced proficiency in Solidworks (or equivalent CAD software) for designing metal parts and assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of sheet metal design principles, including bend allowances, welding processes, and material properties.
  • Skilled in reading and creating blueprints with a focus on dimensioning, geometric tolerancing (GD&T), and fabrication details.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with the ability to visualize 2D layouts in 3D space to anticipate potential collision points or fabrication challenges.
  • Proficient with measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges) and advanced math skills for precise fabrication.
  • Experience interpreting and creating engineering documentation for metal fabrication, and writing clear machine-level instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate professionally with engineering, production, and quality teams.
  • Highly self-motivated with excellent attention to detail, organization skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Bonus points if:

  • Experience operating and programming Haas, Fanuc, or similar CNC equipment for metal fabrication.
  • Experience operating and programming laser cutters, press brakes, or automated welding systems.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles applied to metal fabrication.
