Overview
Energy Jobline is supporting a major international energy infrastructure programme and is seeking an experienced Mechanical & Welding NDT Inspector to oversee inspection and testing activities across fabrication and construction works.
The role will ensure mechanical systems and welded components meet project specifications, quality standards, and applicable industry codes.
The Role
Reporting to the FMWR Yard QC Superintendent, the Mechanical & Welding NDT Inspector will monitor welding and mechanical installation activities during fabrication, erection, and equipment installation.
The position will focus on verifying welding quality, overseeing non-destructive testing activities, and ensuring mechanical installations comply with approved engineering documentation and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect welding activities to ensure compliance with Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualification requirements
- Verify correct materials, joint preparation, welding consumables, and environmental conditions during welding operations
- Conduct inspections of piping systems, structural components, pressure vessels, and mechanical equipment installations
- Verify mechanical installations against isometric drawings, equipment datasheets, and project specifications
- Monitor equipment alignment, bolt torqueing, pressure ratings, and installation orientation
- Perform or supervise non-destructive testing (NDT) including visual testing, radiographic testing, ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle testing, and dye penetrant testing
- Review and interpret NDT results and coordinate with Level III inspectors when required
- Maintain inspection documentation including weld maps, inspection reports, and testing records
- Issue and track non-conformance reports and support corrective action processes
- Support quality audits, inspection activities, and client witness points during fabrication and testing
Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of welding processes such as SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and SAW
- Experience inspecting piping systems, pressure equipment, and structural welds
- Ability to interpret fabrication drawings, welding symbols, P&IDs, and piping isometrics
- Experience using mechanical inspection tools such as calipers, gauges, and precision measuring equipment
- Familiarity with NDT standards and inspection practices within energy or industrial projects
- Strong reporting, documentation, and communication skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent technical qualification from an accredited institution
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical inspection or welding/NDT inspection roles
- Familiarity with standards such as ASME, AWS, API, and ISO NDT certification frameworks
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills

The advertised day rate applies to independent consultants operating on a contract basis. Candidates who prefer to be engaged as employees of the client may be offered a different remuneration structure.
