Project Engineer
Location: Charlotte, NC
Type: Direct Hire
Salary: $80,000 – $100,000

We are seeking a Project Engineer for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Charlotte, North Carolina. Our client is recognized as one of the nation’s leading designers and manufacturers of water and wastewater treatment equipment and systems. The Project Engineer is responsible for managing engineering projects from planning through completion, ensuring that technical accuracy, timelines, and quality standards are consistently met. This role works closely with cross-functional teams and external partners to deliver high-performance, cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage engineering projects from concept through completion

  • Review and interpret project plans and specifications to ensure alignment with design and performance requirements

  • Perform detailed technical calculations, including structural and process engineering analyses

  • Prepare and submit comprehensive engineering calculation reports for project approvals

  • Coordinate with third-party Professional Engineers (PEs) to obtain certifications and design sign-offs

  • Source and evaluate catalog cut sheets for system components, ensuring compliance with design criteria

  • Conduct internal reviews of all design drawings and documents for accuracy and completeness before release

  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, sourcing, and installation teams to resolve technical challenges

  • Travel as needed to customer sites for field measurements, installation support, and troubleshooting

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical equipment design, including weldments and assemblies

  • Proven ability to apply engineering principles to electro-mechanical equipment

  • Strong proficiency in engineering calculations and technical reporting

  • Experience with 3D and 2D CAD software; SOLIDWORKS and AutoCAD experience is a plus

  • Familiarity with power transmission components such as motors, gearboxes, chain drives, shafts, and bearings

  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

/Desired Experience:

  • Experience with fabrication processes including bending, punching, welding, and machining

  • Background in municipal water or wastewater systems is a plus

  • Familiarity with material handling systems such as conveyors and bulk storage

  • Experience using structural design tools such as RISA, Tekla, or similar software

  • Knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a plus

  • Strong desire to learn, grow professionally, and continuously improve technical skills
