2 x Mechanical Maintenance Engineers sought by a recycling facility in Runcorn. This subsidiary of an international, £multibillion turnover plastics manufacturer is focused on growing the circular economy and they see innovation within PVC recycling as pivotal to their global sustainability strategy.
This is a permanent role on weekly rotating shifts, 6am to 2pm and 2pm to 10pm, known formally within the business as Mechanical Engineer. However, you will be working days during your probationary period. Shifts and shift allowance will apply after completion of probation.
The Role:
As Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of all plant machinery, via proactive and reactive maintenance. Key responsibilities include:
Perform planned preventive maintenance (PPM) on mechanical systems, machinery, and equipment
Respond to breakdowns and conduct reactive repairs to restore equipment to full working order promptly
Diagnose mechanical faults using root cause analysis and fault-finding techniques
Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical components (gears, pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, etc.)
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, maintenance manuals, and engineering documentation
Maintain accurate maintenance records, including logs of work done, parts used, and downtime
Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, improve reliability, and lower maintenance costs
Ensure compliance with health & safety, risk assessments, and equipment isolation procedures
The successful Mechanical Maintenance Engineers will demonstrate:
Apprenticeship or Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification e.g. NVQ Level 3, BTEC Level 3, C&G Level 3, HNC / HND
Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer / Mechanical Maintenance Technician, ideally in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
Strong mechanical bias with good hands-on skills
Experience in fault-finding and repair of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
Experience with rotating machinery (motors, pumps, gearboxes)
Competent use of workshop machines and hand tools
Good understanding of preventative maintenance methodologies
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Benefits:
£41,000 - £46,000 depending on experience, including shift allowance (after probation)
£60 per month attendance bonus
£50 per month production target bonus
Overtime at 1.5x – typically 1 Saturday per month
