Job Responsibilities:
- Lays out, fits, aligns, and assembles prefabricated cast and forged components prior to welding, soldering, brazing, or bonding operations.
- Performs fitting and machining operations such as straighten, grind, burr, drill, ream, and countersink materials to close tolerances.
- Refers to general instructions to select equipment, set up, and lay out materials to be welded.
- May repair or rework parts to restore to required tolerances which have become distorted as a result of welding operations.
- May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
**SHIP FITTER experience/shipyard REQUIRED Prior Shipyard** Prior Shipyard Experience of 1 to 5 years.
- Confined space trained B.
- Hazard communication trained
- Respirator trained and qualified.
- Fall Protection/4-D Body Harness-Vertical & Horizontal Lifelines-Beam Clamp trained and qualified
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE*) training
- Non-prescription and prescription safety glasses must meet the requirements of ANSI Z87, with permanently attached side shields.
- All Leased Labor personnel engaged in Welding must wear either the Fiber Metal Type 1 Class C or the MSA Skullgard Class A Hard Hat only.
- Hearing protection must be of the muff type (banded or mounted) and must have been trained on their use.
- Foot protection must be 8” safety boots or leather safety shoes w/spats.
- Coveralls must be flame resistant with long sleeves.
- Audiometric testing which documents proof of individual worker's hearing function. .
- The physical work effort expected is demanding. The temperature and humidity extremes that may be encountered are the result of ambient temperature and humidity levels in the work area.
- Hexavalent Chromium medical examinations and clearances.
- Full welding jacket.
- Welding shield leather bib. * PPE training means general requirements, eye and face protection, head protection, foot protection, hand and body protection, hearing protection, and body harness-personal fall arrest systems (PFAS) and position device systems.
