Mechanical Estimator – Building Services

We are working on behalf of a leading building services contractor with a strong presence across the North East, delivering mechanical and electrical solutions across a wide range of sectors including commercial, education, healthcare, and industrial projects.

Due to continued growth and an increasing workload, we are looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical Estimator to join the pre-construction and commercial team in Durham.

This is a key position within the business, playing a vital role in securing future work and ensuring the ongoing success of project delivery.

The Role

In this role, you will be responsible for producing accurate and competitive mechanical estimates for a variety of building services projects.

You will take ownership of the tender process from initial enquiry through to submission, working closely with internal teams and the wider supply chain to develop well-informed, commercially sound bids.

Responsibilities

* Prepare and submit detailed mechanical tenders across multiple project types

* Analyse tender documents, drawings, and specifications

* Undertake take-offs and build-ups for labour, materials, and plant requirements

* Source and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors

* Assess project risks and identify potential value engineering opportunities

* Contribute to tender review meetings and commercial discussions

* Assist with handover of successful bids to delivery teams

* Maintain awareness of market pricing and industry trends

* Build and maintain strong relationships with supply chain partners

* Ensure all submissions are accurate, competitive, and compliant

About You

* Previous experience in a Mechanical Estimating role within building services or M&E contracting

* Strong technical understanding of mechanical systems in commercial environments

* Confident interpreting drawings and tender documentation

* Good commercial judgement and analytical ability

* Familiarity with estimating tools and software packages

* Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines

* Clear and confident communicator

* Relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering or similar (desirable but not essential)
